Prestowitz implies that the U.S. has allowed the global economy to shift toward India and China simply by not taking a proactive stance. - It is hard to imagine how the US could prevent such large, dynamic economies from taking an important role in the world economy. They represent more than 2 billion people -- more than 1/4 of the world's population! The US can never compete directly with these countries. Their wages are just too low. Instead, we need to stay smart and invest in education and technology -- our comparative advantage in a global economy.
