Want to start Import Business. Please Help!!!?

I need a good advice from someone who is already on the Import industry. I am thinking of starting an Import business which will include: Hand made Artificial Jewellery from India/China Blank CD/DVD’s from India Male/Female Belts from Asia Stoles from Asia I would like to know where I shall start. I am not going for a Big Business, just small level in the starting, may be online or a word of mouth. I did lot of search on the internet about the U.K Foreign Trade regulations, but could not find anything related to the above items. I would like to know: Can I import the above said items? How much will be the custom duty? Are there any other charges/payments? Do I need to register with some governing body? Many thanks in Advance. Kind regards, Rav

1. Go see a Charted Accountant they will put you in touch will the right people.
2. Contact your local Business Link for free help and advice on importing. They're pretty good on this. Also the UK Trade and Investment people have a lot of information. On the face of it, it would seem that you can import the items you mention As has been said elsewhere, you need to talk to HMRC about the duty side of things. They run free workshops where you can get all the information you need Other charges will depend on the arrangements you make with the exporters - freight, insurance etc There's no governing body as such but when you set up in business you need to register with Inland Revenue within 3 months Good luck!
