How has India's currency changed from about 1000 to present time?
Please give me a long description on how the currency of India has changed.

- Indian currency has always been the Rupee.At least from the time of the british raj.Prior to this,India was a consortium of different states.Separated by culture,religion and language.Today the currency is still the Rupee,as this was the only indian money,the british would accept
- India's currency is Rupee... its origin is from the word 'rupa' meaning silver in sanskrit... 'rupyakam' means coin of silver... the first time the work rupya was used by Sher Shah Suri when he introduced new currency (in 16th century)... since than, the currency majorly followed and accepted as offical currency of India under British raj is rupee... under British raj, rupee was the currency in most of its asian colonies... you can get a fair idea of the history of rupee at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rupee i dont have much knowledge, but various different currencies were used before (i guess, mainly silver) under different kingdoms...
