India has made the American English language a compulsory subject in schools why can't Mexicans do the same?

I saw on BBC World that India has made the American English laguage a compulsory subject in primary and secondary schools. Meaning you cannot complete your primary and secondary education unless you know both Hindi and American English. My question now is why does mexicans seem to hate America so much yet India has so much respect for America?

2. Many do not speak proper Spanish. English is too much to hope for.

I think the WHOle world is now speaking English language, in the USA it's made too easy for the Mexicans, because in the grocery store's for instance, most of the groceries are written in Spanish, which is hindering them speaking English faster, and why we bow down to them is beyond me!!!!!!! they all need to learn to speak English, HELLO !!!!!!!
4. Are you kidding? Call any customer service line, look at any Wal Mart Product. WE'RE CHANGING OUR LANGUAGE TO SPANISH TO CONFORM TO THEM!! Because retailers want their dollars. India is an extremely fast rising economy that wants to attract American business partners to offshore employment there. Mexico doesn't give a crap. They'll just keep sending illegals over - they already OWN US!
5. Well alot of countries do it to man. Mexico offer classes to those that wish. Why don't we make Hindi our second language then? does it really matter? and what does this have to do with immigration?
6. i'm pretty sure mexico doesn't hate america. the two countries are TOTALLY different (mexico and india). i think the reason that indians are required to learn English is because we have put a lot of major companies over there and they work for us. we help there economy a lot. they need to know english for that.
7. Enormous difference. In the mid 19th Century, during the British Raj, when England ruled India, a commissioner named T.B. MacCauly, ordered all education in India to be based on English. In the light of the countless local languages and dialects, it has continued to be used in govt., politics, and all official communication. For one hundred and more years English has been the official language. We speak of Indian English a particular branch of the language. Look! Many first generation Italians, Poles, Germans, etc. even Gaelic speaking Irish never learned enough English to speak of after years here. I worked with old men who spoke only German and learned quite a lot of the language as a kid. It is the second generation who speak the language as natives, and often out-perform their comrades of earlier generation in education and professions. I give you the example of the Irish diaspora in America. If it pisses you off the hear other languages, why not take a shot at learning one?
8. my my my, all this rhetoric, how many of you have credit cards? if you have a problem, you call a 800 # right! where do you think that call is being picked up at? India stupid. they teach the people of India English because they are sub servant to the Americans. i bet you did not see this film, do you know how they teach the people from India to gauge American attitude? they have them watch the film "a few good men" over and over, why because the film runs the whole gamut of American emotions. so while all you yahoo's are worried about the mexicans the indians are slowly gathering control of all you assets. at least the mexicans just want to build your houses and pick your crops. think about what is important guys, the mexicans are not the problem they guys on top who have all the money and want to keep it are. i work in an area where my group is privy to this info and nobody who works for me even has a credit card or deals with anything or company outside the united states.
9. English is the worlds Lingua Franca it's a simple fact. Mexicans, well when your country was founded on servitude and 300 years later you still have 2 basic classes you really can't expect to much from them.
10. Mexico has never been a friend of America, they only want our tourist money! If we go into Mexico as a tourist, we do so at our own risk! Their police are the first to demand money from us & if we don't give it, they want to lock us up! Perhaps they are still angry that we wouldn't accept them into the Union in 1847 after the Mexican/American war, when they asked us to admit them into the Union! Though we are a trading partner with Mexico, they expect us to learn their language, not they ours. Many in the states have learned Spanish & we provide translators in almost all walks of life in this country but, still they dislike us but, not enough to stay home! The English were in India for many years, when they left India they offered citizenship to any Indian people that wanted to leave India. Many went to England & many came to Canada then migrated into America. The Indian people are not out to settle any scores with anyone over the fact that they were colonized by the British & they know that we never tried to harm them in anyway. America has always respected India & have offered assistance to them in many ways over the years, with no strings attached. I think it's a mutual respect & since there are so many dialicts spoken in India, it's easier for them to learn English than it is for us to try & learn their languages. It just makes good business sense for them to speak English since we are a trading partner with them.
11. They do that in Tiawan and other countries as well. Ask the little kid running through the slums....of ANY country....they know English....but Mexicans can't? They know enough to beg and make a vacation a "volunteer movement" but they can't say THANK YOU in America? Sorry......don't buy it. ENGLISH isn't MY NATIVE language either.....but it is the language you need to know. Spanish gets me NOWHERE in the GLOBAL world. It is about as valuable as a native tribal language. "Must speak Spanish" isn't the real Spanish language and it gets me NOWHERE in the GLOBAL world. As a WHITE person speaking Spanish gets me NOTHING....as a Mexican it gets you more when you can't order a hamburger in English...or French or ANY other language. Show me a real bi-lingual Mexican and I'll show you 100 American citizens who are. Hells bells.....Mexicans are taking Spanish because they don't know it either!!!!!!!
12. Wow, you really dont know, do you? You really think its about respect? They are leaning American English because it means MONEY for them. They must speak American English to be able to work for the calling centers that are opening up in India. Also, you do know that they already speak English (study a little history, man). Many of our calls are routed to India to resolve our issues with credit cards, banks, and other phone intense industries. As far as Mexicans, the reason many dont learn English is because they don't have to. They do quite well with out speaking English. So get off your high horse, and stop being judgmental.
13. You want to make something compulsory for what you people refer to as a "third world country" that the the US doesn't even do. It is not compulsory for students here to learn another language. How many Mexicans do you know personally that told you face to face they "hate" the US?
14. India hasn't done anything of the kind. The vast majority of Indians don't speak English, American or British. Please cite a source for this if you have one.
