- Hello Ankush, To put your mind at rest, no bank in India is going bankrupt. Further, you would appreciate that bankruptcy is probably an American concept. In India, even if an organization were to have the misfortune of being in this untainable situation it would be refered to the BIFR. If the resturcturing exercise does not seem to be reasonable then the organization is in all probability taken over by another. There is maximum safety for the deposit holders; as in case of bankruptcy like situations there would only be a delay in their receiving back their deposit alongwith the attached interest. However, the share holders of the overlying stock traded in the stock markets would have to sell their stock holding through the stock market at prices prevelant for the stock under study or to be sold. The ICICI Bank seems to be okay. However, as reported by the bank through the press they seem to have a minisule exposure to investments that are of subordinate quality. However, given the overall size and strength of this bank it is expected that they would be able to weather this storm over time with a minisule effect to itself if at all. Finally, its your deposit and/or investment. So, it is for you to decide what you would like to do with respect to you deposit and investment holdings; keeping in perspective your overall investment plan.
