Where do jewelry designers get their jewelry from to make their creations?

I know gems are found in places like Africa and India, etc...but what I'm saying is "who's the middle man?"

  1. some jewellers don't have a middle man. The designers make the design and then there is a team to assemble it just so in some of the major places like Tiffany's.
  2. I dont get u exactly. But the basics is gold, diamond, ruby etc are stones and they are found deeply in mountains and the ruler of that place has rights to use it.A team puts dinamites in mountains and they take jewelry out and sell to the jewelers and the jewelers shape it and sell u.Got it
  3. For precious metals, jewelers/jewelry stores often buy partially-finished pieces (blanks) from a refinery such as Hoover & Strong. Then the jewelers set the stones and polish to make a finished piece. If it's a one of a kind piece, they may make it from raw gold wire, or cast it in their own kiln.
