India China Trade Knowledge Base

Which did the Romans trade with first - China or India? I can't remember if the Romans found India through Egyptian sailors (who caught the seasonal winds to India) and then they found China through India, or if the Romans started trading with India because of its proximity to China, already a trading partner. I have no idea and so if any body even knows a little bid about this it would be very helpful.
What good is cap and trade if India and China and others do as they please? If the real goal is greener living what good is it for us to do it if they don't?
how did India, china, and japan change the impact of global trade and European power? how did India, china, and japan change the impact of global trade and European power?
UK companies that trade with China/India? I've been trying to research which UK companies trade with China and India. I need to know what they sell, why are they selling to China and India and how successful they are. I've been searching for hours, but I can simply find nothing. If somebody could possibly help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated.
Will Obama's trade deal with India be just as successful as Clinton's trade deal with China? Will we lose another 6 million manufacturing jobs? Will the trade deficits with India increase by 175% like they did with China? If the government couldn't make China comply with their trade agreement, why do they think India will? http://www.manufacturingnews.com/news/10/0615/WTO.html
Trade angst with China and India? It's all about labor, cheap labor. To pit a family of four in the Midwest or any US city, against a worker 12 years old in China or India is unconsciable. Trade restrictions are blamed for causing the Great Depression, and they indeed participated, but trade restrictions are the ONLY way to ensure there is any manufacturing base in the US at all. I am politically moderate to conservative, but I am outraged at this administration's completely turning it's back on the working men and women in this country. The result? Economic explosions in the East, resulting in the soaring of energy prices globally, and the virtual collapse of manufacturing in the United States. The news today barks of congress growing tired of China's currency manipulations. Get smart, America. China is taking care of China. It's time we begin taking care of America. Do you think China and India should be in the 10 most developed countries in trade? Do you think China and India should be in the 10 most developed countries in trade? Why should they be in the top 10 and why are they not in the top 10?

In which ways are China and India's economies effecting the US economy? I am writing a research paper on this. What are some main points to talk about? I know India and China graduate 60,000 more engineers than the US, and produce technology for a much lower price, but how does this effect the US other than competition? India is the US's largest partner in trade, but what does India trade? Thanks in Advance!
What did Britain get from India, Japan and China before 1956? Trade wise? This is to do with the suez crisis, so any extra or unusual information about it would be REALLY helpful x
India+China? What is the Relation between India and China? Peaceful? Strong Political Allies? Political Enemies? In Ancient Times, the Indian Civilizations can be argued as more advanced as the Chinese, but the chinese traded with India more than any other nation in the world at that time. Mostly because barley anyone knew anything about India/China, they were far off in the east.
HOMEWORK HELP ASAP!!!! How did the Indian Ocean Trade Network impact economies of Africa, India, and China? I have a homework assignment due tomorrow (and just so you know, lots of people have procrastinated on this) and I'm on the last question. I've looked everywhere online and everywhere in my textbook and I can't find it anywhere! Can someone please answer this in a way that I'll be able to understand (like 10 year old writing) so I can write it in my own words? Please and thank you!

Is the growth of Asian economies(China, India) a threat to the US? I need to analyze the growth of US trade with China and India. Is growth of these and other Asian economies a threat to the US? I'd prefer to hear both sides(pros and cons), if that's possible.
How many jobs will leave the U.S. for China and/or India should Obama put the cap/trade carbon tax on everyone? Please considering in your answer that the cap/trade carbon tax would hit low wage earners the most in the form of jobs and increased prices of everything that is purchased including food, baby food, milk and infant formula. Please also consider that the CEO of a major US power generation and distribution company said yesterday that their billings would increase 40% across the board to all customers - residential, commercial, and industrial.
If USA Blocked Trade with China/India and kicked out illegals would our economy improve? like say USA literally banned china and india goods from reaching our shores and had to restart our manufacturing jobs we also kicked out anyone doing business in china or india and made them go live in china an india and we kicked out all the illegal immigrants we said sorry we need those jobs and than we built like a wall around us blocking canada an mexico and basically just went about our way cut the military in half an just said try anything will nuke you pretty much an have all money pretty much going into nuclear submarines and satelite nukes how would our economy improve?
Why is our governmet doing nothing about the trade deficit with China, India, Japan, Chile or others = TRIP? WTO = Trade Related Aspect of Intellectual Property ( TRIP) or Global monopoly of the world's market? Isn't it sickening that the International Corporations ( including Phamaceutical ) lobby our government to enforce laws to make sure these countries won't develope new drugs and tech. for the developing countries. In the TRIP agreement China, Chile, India, Japan and other countries are allow to sell whatever they want in the US as long as they don't create generic products for the poor people in the world = Medicine and guess who was in charge of the WTO = A Jew by the name of Paul Wolfowitz = the architect of the Iraq war.............. and the guy that replaced Wolfowitz = Another Jew You = Milk Cow USA = Jewish Cattle Farm Wake up early tomorrow and get ready to get milk = paying taxes
Will India & China pass their own Cap & Trade? If this nonsense passes it will do nothing to help the environment. India & China will continue to pollute. If you can't see that this is purely a fundraiser for the gov't you are blind.
How does CAPPING TRADE in the USA cool the globe, when China, Mexico and India won't CAP their TRADE? Why do the WARMERS want to destroy the US economy, based on JUNK SCIENCE ?
how should i compare india and china's foreign trade policies? its for a project. how do i do the comparision? china's FTP are not available on the net.
Mr. President: why don't we stop those unfair and losing trade deals and deficit with China, India, Korea...? Why don't we stop those free trade losing deals with China, India, Korea, Brasil ...? We were almost losing all the time for those kind of free trade deals? Due to their unfair practices, manipulating their currencies, ripped off their people, slavery their workforce, ignore human right and religious rights. It's time to stop those "Free Trade Deals" , shut our border, tax them! This's the best way to stop bleeding our jobs; stop our "big" InCorps. from outsource our jobs, to maintain and improve our quality jobs and products in the US. This's time for us to save more not to spend more! Yes, this's painful, slowly and heart breaking. But SAVING NOT SPENDING like you and those echoing doing now! We need to emphasize on saving...the more the better. When we have enough money in the safe, it's logically we will going out to spend. So, Please Stop Spending Our Future! Saving now! Taxing those countries not our poor, hard working American Families. God Bless The USA!
Japan, India, China and Saudi Arabia trade American dollars for gold, how long til the dollar is worthless? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiZZWCLC2hw&feature=player_embedded http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1879735_1846041,00.html
What are the best online markets for trading with China, India and Malaysia and the far east? This question was previously submitted but the answers did not appear due to a fault; I got emails stating I got answers which was proof of a fault.

Why are India and China still buying oil from Iran? I read that they are still buying oil from Iran even though we put up sanctions. WTF I thought they were our allies, well China maybe not as much as India, but we still trade with them a lot.
Should America punish itself with Cap and Trade if the biggest offenders, China and India will not change? Yesterday the EPA and MIT concluded that the Waxman's Cap and Trade bill will no nothing to reduce overall CO2 emissions if only the U.S. enacts such restrictions. And yesterday at the global conference, China and India disagreed with the global warming science concerning CO2. Why should American taxpayers suffer for the "so-called enviro sins" of the rest of the world? Are some here implying that America should pay for the messes in China, India and any other countries with whom we do business? If the EPA, MIT and other reputable scientists and sources agree that Cap and Trade at this level will not have an impact on the environment, this bill is obviously about money. Does that make you feel better? Big corporations will make money off your backs by creating "enviro" friendly ventures that have little impact, but make you feel good about yourself and at the same time your energy bills and cost of living goes up to pay for Cap and Trade policies. Really? jehen, I don't think our kids should pay for our junk science tomorrow that makes us feel good about ourselves today.
Why India' share of the world' trade is much less than China? With this huge amount of goods that are "Made in China" everywhere in this day and age I wonder why we rarely see products that are "Made in India" I think India' share of the world market is very little given it's size and status as the world' biggest democracy, What do you think?
Why is that Russia,China,India and Brazil are not using US dollars on their trade anymore ? http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/slideshow/photo//090616/ids_photos_wl/r1202833201.jpg/
What would happen if China puts trade sanctions against USA? What would happen if China puts trade sanctions against USA? How will USA and China be affected? Who will suffer more? What about other countries such as India?
Why President Obama is still following President Bush Free Trade policy if it was bad? Because of free trade policy started from Rich Republican party then President Clinton signed it, then George W Bush expand it; the results as we could see and understand that thousand of job and technology flew to China and India. Trade deficit is huge with China, India is controlling our steel industry, million of US citizen unemployed including me. Why President Obama today is till talking about more free trade with Korea and Colombia? Source Mc Clatchy New
what can the world do to encroage increased wages in China and India? Is there anything the so called first world can realy do to encorage a increase in the wages in China and India that will even out the balance of trade?
Why is there no mention of INDIA AND CHINA IN THE HOLY BIBLE? This isn't a very important question but I am just curious as to the answer. When Jesus Christ lived, the Middle East was not the epicentre of the world then. The epicentre of the world at that time was India and China because these countries were the source of global commerce and innovation etc. The Middle Eastern and Medditeranean people did know that Indians and Chinese existed, because India and China traded with the Roman empire, Alexander, a few hundreds years before Christ, had attempted to conquer India and Cleopatra tried to send her children at the last minute to India to save their lives. So why is any mention of China and India completely ommitted in the holy bible?
Prediction: India, China, and USA Relation in the future? I suppose the USA will try to increase trade with India to slow China's rapid growth. This in turn will anger china then they will buy less bonds. I want a educated answer. I really don't want a right or left leaning philosophy lesson. Not to mention fight for energy. SInce the USA presence is strong in the middle east do you think we will use this to barter with India and get them to buy our bonds and debt. But be ever so careful as not to estrange from China too much. China will in turn seek a stronger alliance with Russia since Russia has a lot of oil. China can not really stop trading with us since we supply them with the cheap food and tobacco they need to feed their masses I want to know what you Predict will be the Relation ship between the three I want to know what you Predict will be the Relation ship between the three
In 2020 who will be the best in space technology china/India ? How to Import Cellphones from china to India? I am an opportunity for the huge cellular phone market in Rural India ( 70 million people) where price matters more than the brand. How did China & India benefit? How did China & India benefit from trade growth? Please give me long answer~^^
India & China two of the fastest growing countries and our competitors will not do anything on "global warming? But America will have to be mandated to comply based on Obama's regulations such as cap and trade, we will pay for it? It's called "global" warming, two of the largest countries in the world, who are quickly taking all of the jobs we used to have won't comply, so they live in the world, they will be polluting, do you think America complying will change anything if they aren't complying?? Probably not, it will be like a drop in the bucket, but it will cost Americans jobs and millions in taxes, wouldn't you agree?

China is increasing trade/alliances with Europe, the USA is increasing ties with India who is better? Obama is in Indonesia, Criticizes Israel on Housing‎. President of China is with Britain and France's leaders talking about trade and cooperation. Who has the better President, China or America. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11694214 http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hr7dg081Mnki3Sa96ewTXH5mwiaA?docId=CNG.b1a55b0b5443241662acaf2aa494d3d8.01
When will we stop spreading our wealth to China, India and Iraq? When will we stop shipping our jobs overseas? Is there an end to the trade deficit?
In an attempt to adjust the trade imbalance with China, Britain began? increasing the price of steel traded by China. decreasing the amount of tea and porcelain purchased from China. shipping opium grown in India directly to China. shipping silk made in India directly to England. I'm stuck between B and C..?
India and China: If they become superpowers, how long do you think they'll last? Everyone's talking about India and China and their rapid growth. So IF they do become superpowers like the US, simultaneously destroying US trade, will they be able to last long? The US has been a superpower ever since WWI and became the strongest after the Cold War which is about 20-30 years. When these countries become the strongest, how long will they last? Or will it be like a rise and fall continous game? Sorry 20-30 years AGO
Which U.S. industries and companies will benefit financially from growth in China and India? For years the U.S. has incurred trade deficits with other countries/continents: Asia, since they make most of our clothing, consumer goods, and electronics; and the Middle East and other oil-producing countries for crude oil. Now that China, India, Russia, and other countries are growing, what products/services do U.S. companies provide that is needed by those countries? [My goal is to invest in U.S. companies that will experience growth by supporting the growth of these other world economies -- but I'm specifically looking for U.S. companies that have little to no competition doing what they do, as it relates to helping a foreign economy grow.]
India and China have signed energy deals with Iran? http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080703/wl_mideast_afp/indiairangasenergypipeline_080703163832 http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/17/AR2006021702146.html Why do these people support Iran? How do we tell them to stop trading with Iran because they are an extremist nation? They want innocent people dead and they hate America. How do we stop India and China from trading with Iran?
How does the rest of the world expect China and India to curb global warming? What should the consequences be for those countries if they thumb their nose at the "rest of the world" and continue to burn carbon-based fuels at a high rate (assuming that Western Europe and the USA instantiate a "cap-and-trade" system)? So, US companies are exploiting workers in China and India and creating high emissions so the citizens of those countries can lead a better middle class life? Which is it?
How many individual investors are there in: UK, Canada, Japan, China and India? I have found the information for the US (Securities Industry Association) but I need it for the above countries as well. If you could possibly provide how many of those investors trade via the Internet as well it would be a BIG help. Thanks.
China Is Against Free Trade. What Should Be Done About Its Protectionism? China causes its money to fall to increase the amount of investment in China and to make its exports cheap in America. That creates a situation where American employers cannot compete against China. Because of the inability to compete, employers are either forced out of business, or are forced to give up their patriotism to the U.S. and hire foreign workers in China. America can compete with other countries. America is the near the top of the list in worker productivity. It out ranks Japan, India, China, almost all of Europe, etc.. However, it and the EU cannot compete against countries that artificially devalue their currencies to decrease the prices of their products in Western nations. Allowing the trade deficit growth to continue will create a unsustainable condition where trillions of dollars of the GDP are transferred other countries. That causes a lowering of the standard of living, an increase in personal debt, slower wage growth, an increase in government debt,... China won't adjust currency. Why EVERYTHING we buy is MADE in CHINA/INDIA? There is one problem that is serious but not many people talk about it or realize it. And, personally, I think it is the real reason for all the current mess in the economy. If you go to the store, everything you see there is made in China or India today. Go to Walmart and take a look at labels to find out where things are made. If all the goods we buy were made here in the US, so many more people would have JOBS. The US dollar would be stronger too. We all would be more proud. I have borrowed this question from one discussion forum, and I have to post it here because I think it is very important. But see here for more if you like: http://www.maxi-pedia.com/forum/index.php?topic=76.0 (The USA economy wont improve until trade with China is restricted) What do you think about the fact that everything is made in China? Edit: Of course, people buy stuff from China because it is cheaper. But that is only because only very few of us realize the COMPLETE price of what we buy. A t-shirt at Walmart made in China costs "only" $5. But, how much does it cost when you add to it the price of lost job opportunities, when you add the cost of government bailout plans, when you add the price of risk. Anyone, can you imagine what will happen when Chinese decide to dump all the Treasuries they currently hold and switch their reserves from USD to EUR and YEN? That will be the beginning of the REAL trouble. And who should be blamed for it? Consumers for not realizing what they do by purchasing made in China/India OR the government (Bush) for their inability to stop subsidizing China by freeing the juan/dollar exchange rate? (hint: If the exchange rate with China was NOT fixed, it wouldn't be so profitable for companies to import stuff from China to US) http://www.maxi-pedia.com/forum/index.php?topic=76.0 Good answers, thank you.
WHY is India soo greedy? Now its going after China and Bangladesh.? First of all.. They pretty much control Bhutan.. Bhutan has no say on its own foreign policy, and India controls its defence (along with its foreign policy). And Bhutan produces more than 10,000 mghtz of electricity, pretty much all of it goes to INDIA.. Secondly, India is demanding that China lets go of Tibet, and working with Dalai Lama, to show a very dirty picture of this China-Tibet conflict to the world.. Basically saying " look how cruel and abusive China is, lets force China to free Tibet" .. So they can full fil their wish of getting Tibet for their own. This shows their hypocricy, because India is not letting Kashmeer go, when it wants to be free, India denied the UN to do the voting (to see if the Kashmeeris wants to stay with India or not). And has put about a Million of armed forces in Kashmeer. Thirdly, now its going after Bangladesh, the govt. there is pro India, this new govt. is nothing but a puppet of India, it is not stopping India to build the dams which will besically dry up the country. It is giving India passages through it so India could have more access to trade. India should STOP all these! I am rooting for China all the way!
Anyone interested in trading of Mushrooms from China/Pakistan/India? Anyone interested in trading of Mushrooms from China/Pakistan/India?
Given China and India's growth, should I rethink what a diversified portfolio looks like? I'm investing for a 30+ year horizon and I have a hypothesis that I should put the majority of my money in index funds tied to the stock markets of India (India Index Exchange Traded Note) and China (iShares FTSE/Xinhua China 25 Index) because those are economies of growth. I have heard that American companies such as GE, Gillete, P&G, Coca-Cola, etc. will benefit by serving these countries, but I still think that foreign firms based in those countries will better understand and take advantage of those markets. Furthermore, why should I assume that the American markets are any more safe for my money than China or India? From an education standpoint, the U.S. is not looking too competitive 20 or 30 years from now and that is not good for an economy that is dependent on innovation. For my equity investments I was thinking of this distribution: Fidelity Asset Manager (85%) - 20% India Index Exchange Traded Note (INP) - 40% iShares FTSE/Xinhua China 25 Index (FXI) - 40%
India and China have struck energy deals with Iran? http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080703/wl_mideast_afp/indiairangasenergypipeline_080703163832 http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/17/AR2006021702146.html Why do these people support Iran? How do we tell them to stop trading with Iran because they are an extremist nation? They want innocent people dead and they hate America. How do we stop India, China and other nations from trading with Iran? And now that they've made deals with Iran, won't they get mad if we happen to invade Iran to free their people?
I have my own Trading Company in Mumbai and China. How do I start finding my right Buyers in India? Computer Hardwares and accessories, RAM, DISK DRIVES, USB, MOTHERBOARDS, I-PoDs, Chinese Mobile Phones, all types of Home and Office Furnitures
How long before China, India, Europe, Russia, Venezuela etc stop trading with the US and turn it into a pariah At the rate American foreign policy is spiralling downwards I say 10 years. What do you think?
Why Does Hillary Want To Send More Jobs To China, India, etc? American employers are already feeling squeezed enough as it is from global market pressures. Since when it is an employers' responsibility to fund health care for its workers above what is mandated under workers compensation? American companies are having an escalating problem of trying to compete against overseas factories located in countries with government-controlled "deflated" currencies. And her husband's backroom trade deals with China has made the situation for worse for employers. Her husband deals with China has caused losses of entire manufacturing sectors and has increased the U.S.'s national debt due to slower wage growth. Also his deals increased worldwide oil costs due to China's growth. ( oil is need for asphalt, road building emulsions, diesel building equipment, gasoline, plastics, etc.) Pressures on U.S. businesses will only grow as more 3rd world countries come online by copying China's government-controlled "currency deflation" and "pegging".
How do we get China and India to sign on to Kyoto accord type agreements? their arguments are that ...now that they are starting to boom economically and catching up to world powers, they are not going to let world powers who have been polluting for decades to pull the rug out from under them. This might be far fetched, but couldn't all the countries that sign an agreement that china or india do not also sign simply say they wont allow any imports into their countries from those countries? or allow any trade? Even if you are in favor of trade with china as seems to be the vogue these days, don't you think thats the stick we can have to nudge them to get on board withe rest of the world community?
What do you think of the new trade deal that involves bringing in foreign workers? They are currently negotiating a deal to bring in millions of foreign workers to work at wages they receive in their home countries and work them here in the USA. Millions of programmers, laborers, service people from India, China, everywhere therefore driving down wages here. There is your free trade working for you. At some point I believe we have to ask ourselves, do our politicians work for us anymore? It is true, check your facts.
Do you think India should continue to support Tibet's independence? India has supported the cause of Tibet since 1959. We have allowed the 14th Dalai Lama to stay in our country and run a "government in exile" in Dharmsala, Northern India. China is pressurizing us on border issues and are saying that India should recognize Tibet to be an official part of China. All this looks like a big political game to me. Should we just forget Tibet and work with China because China is an important trading partner of India and also a future superpower, or should we continue to support Tibet. What do the Tibetans want? Have u been to Tibet?
when India and China will be rich? like for example France, UK Japan and Korea in older times were very poor and now it changed dramatically... and now China and India and Russia Kazahstan are developing that way too (especially China) so when they should be finally rich like Western Europe? I read that japan was a economic miracle because developed 7% per year but now China develops faster and by long time too 8-9%... and I think when so big coutries will b rich the rest of this territory will change too just like there is rich Western Europe and not particular European countries (some countries are richer than others but in general we can say that all western europe is rich) because I think trade between them exist the same situation will be in Asia from Russsia to India. now rich countries are in general Europepean countries and USA soon it will change expecially that China and India have many people living in . it means soon we will be learnign Chiense not English? haha it's good that I know Chinese.
Do you think India is being groomed by the US to be a major pro-US power? Perhaps a counter-weight to China? all in the title. The US is warming relations with India, and seems to be moving to increase trade and share intelligence, moving them away from buying from Russia. Perhaps the US plans to bring India up to speed conventionally to have a reliable ally in Asia with numbers to match China's. Social Democrat: lol obvious troll is obvious.
How can I find out where to buy fair trade products? When I go to the store to buy clothes, electronics, and many other things I notice often they are made in China, India, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and other third world countries probably by people who are treated like slaves, and it eats away at my conscience. I've heard of the growing movement toward fair trade and was hoping someone could help me find out where I could buy all the products I need from a fair trade source.
Who did Italy trade with in the Renaissance and what? I need help with a project for history and so far I've found that Italy traded with the Islamic Middle East, the Byzantine empire, China and India. But I don't know what they traded and I can't find a map of the trade routes! Help plz!
Why do Blacks have a chip on their shoulder when slavery is alive and well in CHina India Russia and Mexico? and American Blacks have been free for 2 hundred years? Unbelievable isnt it? People are still in slavery and they whine about something that has nothing to do with them today! How lucky Blacks are and anyone in these such countries whom still have slavery would love to trade places with the Blacks of AMerica! Thank your lucky stars you do not live in such countries as these poor present day slaves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How many more FREE-TRADE agreements would Mccain sign, if elected? Protecting the American Dream, huh? He doesn't see anything wrong with the free trade agreements we now have...and wants more. Wondering how many more would he sign and HOW would they IMPACT American manufacturing? How would they impact the American Dream of getting a decent job and raising a family w/out worries of outsourcing jobs to China, India?
Geography/History Help, please. -China, India, Egypt, etc. ;D ? Hello there.(: I am kind of stumped on these questions for a History paper I am working on. It is based on these /six/ countries we have been studying for the past three days; Mesopotamia, Egypt, Nubia, India, and China. Here are some of the questions I need help with. (I'll only name /a few/) (1); What are the religions, beliefs, and traditions of these 6 countries? [individually] (2); What are some Economic, Money, and Trade information about these counties? [individually] (3); What are some government, leader details, values and policies for ONLY the countries India and China? Answers; nothing fancy (Well, it's optional). Just an answer that is clear and cuts to the chase for all three questions. ^_^

Why do you people think China will do better than India, economically? Both China and India have unleashed pent-up economic energy, but they’re not traveling the same development path. China has followed the traditional route, becoming a center for low-wage manufacturing and exporting clothing, toys, electronics and other goods. India has emphasized services, using its large English-speaking labor force for call centers, data-processing operations and the like. Growth rates give China’s goods-dominated strategy the better track record so far. But India’s approach may pay off better longer term. A look at per capita incomes around the world shows that the wealth of nations eventually depends more on services than industry. India possesses advantages that bolster a services strategy. Two are legacies of British rule: large numbers of English-speaking workers and familiarity with the West. India also offers an ample supply of educated workers, many of them college graduates available at a fraction of what they could earn in the U.S. and other advanced economies. China’s labor force includes larger numbers of educated workers, but the country has a ways to go before matching India’s advantages in language, cultural compatibility and communications technology. India also had the blessing of good timing. Services trade has surged in recent decades, providing new opportunities in the global marketplace. Two factors are at work. First, the Internet and other technologies have made international communications faster and cheaper, lowering barriers to marketing and delivering services over vast distances. Second, rising incomes have shifted consumers’ spending from goods, boosting demand for services and making it an engine for economic growth. Globalizing companies exploit new technologies by moving services work to low-wage economies—an extension of domestic outsourcing known as offshoring. To meet the needs of foreign multinationals, Indian companies offer services that include computer programming, tax return processing, back-office numbers-crunching, debt collection and cross-border tutoring. One database of the business-processing segment of India’s offshoring industry lists more than 900 companies employing almost 575,000 workers. In addition to the homegrown services companies, multinationals like Dell and IBM have established their own operations in India. The country’s major offshoring firms, for their part, have gone global, even setting up operations in China and the U.S. Although the tentacles of India’s service providers stretch around the globe, the chief export destinations are the U.S., Britain and the Middle East. Industry experts extol India’s edge in delivering global services. Business consultant A.T. Kearney put India at the top of its 2007 Global Services Location Index, based on such factors as cost, worker skills and information technology infrastructure. Jones Lang LaSalle, another consultant, included the Indian cities of Bangalore, Delhi and Chennai on its list of the 10 lowest-cost offshoring destinations. India’s fastest-growing services exports are linked to offshoring. Business services, which make up a quarter of the country’s services exports, shot up 107 percent in 2006 and 138 percent in 2007. Software services, two-fifths of the services exports, rose about 33 percent each of the past two years. Financial services exports may be relatively small, but they grew roughly 140 percent in both 2006 and 2007. These recent gains build on earlier ones. In the past decade, India’s services sales have risen from 18 percent to 38 percent of all exports, topping the 30 percent of the U.S., the largest seller of services in the global marketplace. At the same time, China’s services sales have fallen from 13 percent to 8 percent of all exports, confirming that sales have risen faster for its goods than its services. India expects even greater success selling its services in the future. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the country’s largest business group, estimates services exports will more than triple in the next five years, growing much faster than goods shipments and reaching more than 50 percent of total exports in 2012. The largest chunk of any country’s services output meets its consumers’ demand for such things as transportation, recreation, and help around the office, store and house. In developing economies, many of these domestic services involve low-productivity work, and they’re rarely exported. By contrast, globally traded services tend to be knowledge-intensive, requiring more-educated and productive workers. What India sells doesn’t match the sophisticated services exports of the U.S. and other advanced economies. However, India’s exports are more likely to be at the top end of its services hierarchy. In fact, export success has allowed India to achieve a high level of services productivity for a nation at its stage of economic development. A typical Indian services worker generat A typical Indian services worker generates over $25,000 a year in output—significantly more than Russia, a country with four times the per capita income. India more than doubles the services productivity of Indonesia, a country with similar per capita income. Average income is four times higher in Turkey and more than twice as high in Mexico, two countries that eclipse India in services productivity. That's all. Well, to be honest I could care less about Australia.
is it strange that metal from the world trade center buildings was quickly shipped to china and india? it seems like with there being so many unanswered questions, and that being the biggest crime scene in u.s. history, maybe we would treat it as such. also, why not recycle if here? china was offering more money? sure, why not. http://www.china.org.cn/english/2002/Jan/25776.htm http://www.china.org.cn/english/2002/Jan/25776.htm http://www.jesus-is-savior.com/Evils%20in%20Government/911%20Cover-up/wtc7.htm dowadiddy below-- well, you dont pay to have metal recycled, they pay you for the metel to be recycled, by the pound. second, the cost to ship it around the world, only to get much less money per pound for the scrap, makes no sense. there are many many metal recycling plants accross our country that would have loved to get their hands on the metal. mary b below-- there are plenty of recycling companies here that would have loved to get their hands on that scrap. its a business, its what they do. look at what the government has done in the name of business. justgrandma-- below, mam, i cant even get mad at ya, not that i get mad at anyone on here, but thank you for the comment, god bless, and may the light of truth shine on you as well. bearfrog below=== hmm, tell that to all the 9-11 survivors and the families of those who were killed that day. there are so many of them who want answers. would you silence them too? people just want answers that are truthfull, thats all. this will not be swept under the rug, those who know wont forget.

I need information about the 19th century Britsh opium trade in China in all its seedy glory...? I know that after the sepoy rebellion in the late 1850s, the Honourable East India Company lost its monopoly over the opium trade, and I know the broad outline of the two opium wars story. But for those in the know, I am interested in the following questions. 1. Who actually produced the opium (indigenous laborers who sold it to the East India company, and later private firms? Or Gone With the Wind style planters?) 2. What social classes were involved in opium production, distribution, and consumption? What kind of money was on the line? Did this change after the mid 1850s? 3. What were the risks involved in the opium trade? Was it ever violent? If so, for whom? 4. What were major centers of opium production and distribution in China? Was it always smoked? 5. What are some good books you can recommend on this topic? Some to avoid? Thank you in advance!
Should other countries force trade regulations on a country that does not want to trade? 1839-1842 - The Opium Wars The western world, especially the British, had become angrier at the present lack of trade with China. Westerners wanted more silk and porcelain. This drove the British to find other ways to increase trade with China. What they did was to do their trading with China THROUGH India. The Chinese would accept any trades through India. The two biggest imports INTO China from Britain were cotton and opium. Although opium was illegal in China, corrupt politicians and traders were able to bring in large amounts of opium into China. This created opium addicts among the Chinese. Like any drug that is addictive, the more you use the drug, the more you want. The Chinese government decided it had had enough of this drug and took measures to stop the importing of opium into their country. They seized the illegal drug from corrupt Chinese merchants. They went into foreign communities that were living in their country and took and destroyed their property. The British
Where is the best place to get the history of shipping and international trade as related to ocean voyaging? I'm specifically interested in what route a ship would've taken from the east coast of the U.S. to three different places: India, China and Africa. The time frame I'm interested in is between 1870-1900. I don't mean that all of the three places need to be reached in the same trip.
Are China and India correct in calling themselves "developing nations"? Developing Nation status gives both an exemption to green house gas emission caps as well as trade and development incentives. Both have developed nuclear power and weapons programs and China has put a man in orbit. With thier technological developments,is it fair to the rest of the world and specifically true developing nations to continue China's and India's developing nation status? Can't find the source, but I think China has the world's 2nd or 3rd largest economy,India is in the top 20.With economies that large, thier green house gas emissions will surpass ours. Why should they be exempted? Also, link to thier economic rating would be appreciated. Vast majority of answers are dodging the green house gas emission exemption.i thought it was "one world" we live in;or is it "one world" as long as it doesn't "cost me"?(i.e. China and India being required to spend the 100's of billions required to clean up thier countries)
